Ms. Kate Brubacher, Founder and President

Ms. Brubacher has worked in West Africa since 2004, initially living in Accra, Ghana while chronicling the stories of Liberian refugee widows. Ms. Brubacher presents at conferences and universities on her work in the region. She is a Director of The Perkin Family Foundation and holds a J.D. from the Yale Law School, where she was a director of the Iraqi Refugee Assistance

Project. Ms. Brubacher received her B.A. in Philosophy and M.A. in History, both from Stanford University. In addition to her law degree, she obtained an M.A.R. from Yale Divinity School.


Ms. Kristin King, Vice President
Ms. King is a stock analyst at Frontier Capital Management Company, LLC. She received her M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Ms. King formerly covered media and broadcasting companies as an analyst and associate in Goldman Sachs’ Global Investment Management division. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration, with majors in Finance and French, from the University of Notre Dame.


Mr. Tom Docking, Director
Mr. Docking is an attorney at Morris, Laing, Evans, Brock, & Kennedy, Chartered, where he practices in the areas of taxation, business and estate planning, and banking and commercial law. Beginning in 1983, he served one term as Lieutenant Governor of the State of Kansas, and remains involved in Kansas politics at various levels. In addition to supporting several state and local charities, Mr. Docking sits on the Board of Directors of two commercial banks. He holds a J.D. and M.B.A., both from the University of Kansas.


Mr. Sam Smith, Director
Mr. Smith is a venture capitalist based in Dallas, Texas. He was a special limited partner at Sevin Rosen Management, a Texas-based venture capital firm that has backed high technology firms, including Compaq, Lotus Development, and Silicon Graphics. Mr. Smith began his career at Texas Instruments where he rose to Group Vice President for the Equipment Group, Texas Instruments’ defense business. Mr. Smith is a member of the Compensation Committee of the Ion Board of Directors. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.


Mr. Jacob Brubacher, Director
Mr. Brubacher is currently a resident in Harvard's Combined Orthopaedic Program. He has conducted research on pediatric elbow fractures and traumatic cervical spine fractures. His findings have been published in Current Reviews of Musculoskeletal Medicine. In addition to Mr. Brubacher’s work with LWI, he has both led and participated in medical trips offering free clinics to under-served populations in the developing world. He received his M.D. from the Yale School of Medicine and his B.S. in Biology, summa cum laude, from Texas Christian University.
