Sarah Sackor

Sarah Sackor

In July, Sarah borrowed $87 to set up a stand selling daily provisions in the market. Her products include rice, oil, and vegetables – the staples of a Liberian diet. She was on a six month repayment plan. Sarah had an especially good week during the Independence holiday celebration that took place in late July. Because she was so successful, she re-paid over half of her balance and is able to deposit 54 cents everyday into her savings account. Sarah is a second-time borrower for LWI and has always made early payments. We look forward to helping Sarah grow her business and build her savings.

Esther Tarwo

Esther Tarwo

Esther used $76 to sell kerosene for lamps and purified drinking water. Her kerosene sales are strong due to the lack of electricity. She has paid $40 of her balance and has five more months to repay the remainder. Esther, like many other women, lost her husband and children in the war. Esther says that she enjoys running her business because it keeps her busy and helps her forget her worries.

Josephine Sieh

Josephine Sieh

Josephine is a retired classroom teacher. She is also a mother and grandmother. To support her family, Josephine first borrowed from LWI to begin a business selling drinking water – an important service in a community without running water. She repaid her loan on time and took another loan of $87 to expand her business to include larger quantities of water for use in domestic tanks, as well as a few daily provisions of dry goods. Her business has been such a success that she was able to repay $40 in the first month, and she deposits $1 a day into her savings account.
